Let Aesthetic Education Take Root – SUNON’s Breeze Blows Through Taiwu Elementary School in Pingtung

In 2019, the Ministry of Education launched the "Aesthetic Learning & Design Implementation Program" to integrate aesthetics into children's education and cultivate aesthetic appreciation from an early age. The first phase transformed nine school spaces and received great feedback. In the second phase, 25 schools were selected, focusing on themes such as "Functional Storage," "Feature Classrooms," "Revitalization of Idle Spaces," "Signage and Spatial Transformation," and "Ecological Learning." This initiative aims to merge aesthetic learning with daily life, allowing more schools to implement the concept of "rooting aesthetics in education."

Taiwu Elementary School in Pingtung participated in the second phase of the program, redesigning its craft classroom. The project was planned by the Sanmiao Spatial Lab design team, integrating their design philosophy to provide children in remote areas with an optimal aesthetic learning environment.

The original location of Taiwu Elementary School was at the entrance of Beidawu Mountain, a sacred site of the Paiwan people, offering breathtaking views. However, in 2009, Typhoon Morakot severely impacted the village, prompting its relocation to the current site. With many young adults working in cities, the village is primarily home to children and the elderly, creating a strong bond between the school and the local community. To preserve the children's memory of their mountainous homeland, the school built two small hills on its north and west sides, symbolizing the northern and southern Beidawu Mountains. Large trees were planted on these hills to remind students of their school's origins.

During the planning of the new campus, numerous tribal and natural elements were incorporated, such as the hundred-pace viper, pottery jars, Paiwan totems, glazed beads, and slate houses. The second floor features high windows for natural air circulation and north-facing natural side lighting, integrating daylight and ventilation while reducing reliance on electrical appliances. For essential lighting, energy-saving bulbs were used, and solar panels were installed to generate electricity for the school, achieving an optimal balance between technology and nature.

SUNON has long been dedicated to developing energy-saving technologies and related products, providing comprehensive ventilation and cooling solutions for environmental sustainability education and relevant industries. Internally, the company implements green supply chain management and intelligent manufacturing while fostering an inclusive workplace and talent development. Employees are also encouraged to participate in environmental protection, education, and support activities for disadvantaged groups. While delivering high-quality services for new technologies, SUNON remains committed to the goal of global sustainability.
